A wee bit of sentiment...

This is a very sentimental quilt for me.

It is mostly made out of old embroidered linens and shirts that belonged to my Grandparents.

The blue, white and gray seersucker fabric that makes up the border was a tablecloth that had seen many years of service and was just too far gone. Thankfully I managed to salvage enough.

Pastel Fans....

A quilt from 2003.

I made this one summer whilst working in Ireland.

I did most of it by hand, including the crazy quantity of appliqued bias binding which makes up the fans.

Santa Catalina...

The Santa Catalina convent is Arequipa, Peru is one of the most photogenic places I have ever been.

It was built in 1580 and covers 20,000 square meters. Originally only women from upper class families were accepted. They had to bring a dowry which was equivalent to $150,000 in todays money.

A wee bit of progress...

Just a wee update. I have just returned from an amazing week away and I was fortunate to devote a bit of time to this project.

And yes, it is taking a long time and yes, I do love it.

My first ever quilt...

When I was a child I tried lots of different crafts. I think I had every Dryad craft starter kit available; quilling, candle making, calligraphy, paper making, weaving, embroidery... None of them ever quite kept my attention.

Then, when I was thirteen, I told my Mother I wanted to make a patchwork quilt. She was very supportive but - quite sensibly - suggested I begin with a cushion cover. Out of pure stubbornness I ended up making a double quilt. By hand. It took me a year.
