A cosy TV quilt...

This quilt was made out of an Anta fabric sample book.

It is super cozy as it is made entirely out of wool. This gives the quilt a lovely weight and drape. The backing was made out of tweed scraps pieced together. Button tie quilting finishes it off.

I love this quilt as it is the perfect TV blanket!

Floriferous...

It has been the most blissful weekend here... I hope it has been lovely with you:)

Here are a few photos taken in my Mother's beautiful garden yesterday evening.

I was experimenting with my new (well new to me - it must be thirty years old!) 50mm prime lens. It was a total bargain at £25 :) I LOVE Ebay and the fact that Pentax haven't changed their mounting system for ever. What old school lens should I try next?!

Oh, and if you would like, there are a few more of these on my flickr photostream www.flickr.com/photos/mynameiscait/

A very simple wee quilt...

This quilt is about ten years old. I made it while I was at Art School and I think I just wanted to make something straight forward and quick!

It is a mixture of Liberty prints with a vintage sheet. There is a bit of fussy cutting too. With the benefit of hindsight the border is too plain. In fact I think it would benefit from a bit of machine quilting to give it some texture. What do you think?

Fifteen years ago, when I was fifteen.....

I made this quilt FIFTEEN years ago.

That is terrifying...

This was the second quilt I ever made; I was fifteen. It has been hanging on my Mother's wall ever since; I barely notice it anymore. So I was pleasantly surprised by how it looked hanging on the line in the sunshine.

The wheel of colour...

I very rarely make projects from books but I thought that the Colour wheel quilt from Joelle Hoverson's Last Minute Patchwork and Quilted Gifts is just too lovely to miss.

This project is simple and quick to make and is a fabulous way to showcase favourite fabrics.  I spent a  really fun couple of hours choosing and arranging (and then rearranging!!) the colours to create the right balance of colour and tone.

I am always torn when choosing photos... straight forward ones just showing the whole quilt or more abstract arty still lives?!

The quilt in the book finishes at this point but I am planning to add a border. I think a rainbow string zigzag will add a little more impact.

I will keep you posted!

The beauty of Dhanakosa...

This is the first post in what will be a regular feature. I have loved photography ever since the early days at Art School when I got my first SLR. I recently backed up my photo files...and discovered I have 40,000! It seems such a waste for them to sit on a hard dive and never see the light of day. So here goes!

A few weeks ago I was fortunate enough to spend a week at the beautiful Dhanakosa. I did the fabulous Photography and Meditation retreat. The main focus of the week is landscape photography led by the very talented Amoghavira. I can highly recommend it! These are a few images from my week.
